The City of Lake Mary Police Department Communications Center is a primary answering point for all 9-1-1 emergencies within the City of Lake Mary jurisdiction on all hard phone lines. When you dial 9-1-1 from your residence in Lake Mary, you will be speaking to a 9-1-1 operator at the City Police Department. If the emergency is for Fire/Rescue the call will be transferred to the Seminole County Public Safety Communications Center. If you call from your cellphone you will first go to Seminole County Sheriff's Office and then transferred to the Lake Mary Police Department, if your emergency is within the Cities jurisdiction. The calls for Police Service are processed and field units are notified immediately by trained operators.

When should you dial 9-1-1?

Anytime you have an emergency requiring Police Officers, Fire Fighters or Paramedics to respond.

This may include situations such as a fire, a burglary, an auto accident with injuries, or a medical emergency.

When you dial 9-1-1, the Emergency Communications Operator (ECO) who answers the phone will ask you a series of questions including the location of the emergency, the telephone number you are calling from, the type of emergency and then a series of questions that are specific to the type of emergency you are experiencing. It is very important that you answer these questions so that help can be sent to the correct location, and that the correct public safety resources are sent for a successful resolution to your emergency.

The City is part of the Seminole County 9-1-1 Group and has full enhanced 9-1-1 services. This means that when you dial 9-1-1 the ECO receives a screen with the address and telephone number that the call is coming from. However, you will still be asked this information, remember this information is coming from a data base, and all databases are created by humans so there is a margin for error. When you call from a cell phone, the address is not provided, so it's important to give the location of your emergency.

The Seminole County 9-1-1 Training Group, of which Lake Mary Police Communications is a member, has set national and state standards for training, being the first County in the State of Florida to require that all 9-1-1 operators be Internationally certified in Basic Communications Skills through the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials International, Inc. (APCO) Institute. The City is proud to have a highly skilled staff of Emergency Communications Operators. All Emrgency Communcations Operators will meet new State Certification requirements for 2012.

The 9-1-1 Communications Center offers education on 9-1-1 to the schools, citizens and civic organizations in the area. If you are interested in hosting a 9-1-1 education program contact Suzanne Garfinkel at 407-585-1322 or e-mail her online using this form.
