Our latest project is the construction of a new 19,000 square foot Events Center which is located on beautiful West Crystal Lake on the same site as the previous community building. Although that facility (formerly the CIA Building) served the community well for more than 25 years, it was no longer large enough, nor dis it have the amenities needed, to meet the requests of those wanting to use the facility. Renovation was not an option as it would have been cost prohibitive to meet current building codes.
The new facility features abundant landscaping making the setting perfect for almost any outdoor function. The main banquet room will seat up to 250 guests with doors leading out to a large deck overlooking the water. This state-of-the-art building cost about 5.2 million dollars.
We have also completed other projects in the past five years to include the 38,000 square foot Municipal Services Complex located on Wallace Court which serves as headquarters to not only our main fire station but to all development activities including Planning, Zoning, Building, Life Safety, and Public Works Administration. It is also the home of the Lake Mary Senior Center which has daily activities including arts, crafts, exercise, bingo, and the list goes on. If you’re interested in learning more, call 407-585-1466.
Last, but certainly not least, is our new 5,000 square foot fire substation located in the downtown area next to the police station on East Crystal Lake Avenue. Less than two blocks away is City Hall which is home to Central Park and includes a gazebo measuring 35 feet in diameter that can be used for various community events. The City also participates with downtown merchants in providing a free movie night the second Thursday of each month in Central Park beginning at 6:30 P.M. Check the monthly calendar on our web site or in your utility bill for all upcoming events.
With the completion of the Events Center, our capital building plan is finished which should take us well past the year 2025 barring any unforeseen emergencies. Over the past 15 years, Lake Mary has transitioned from a sleepy community to an economic engine for Seminole County making it the destination of choice for many corporate relocations not only because of its reputation but as a place to live, work and play.
If you have questions, please feel free to call (407) 585-1419 or e-mail us at our city email address . We also invite you to attend our City Commission meetings the first and third Thursdays of every month beginning at 7:00 p.m. Most Lake Mary residents who have Brighthouse cable can watch live broadcast on SGTV (Channel 199).
