What is Code Enforcement?

Code Enforcement is a service provided by the city to ensure compliance with city ordinances and zoning regulations. While providing for the overall health, safety and welfare of the community, Code Enforcement's focus is to maintain community standards.

This page has been developed to explain some of Lake Mary's neighborhood standards. Our first priority is to help residents voluntarily comply with these rules, but if you receive a violation notice, we recommend that you:

Find out how to correct the problem and do so promptly. You can ask for additional time, provided you are taking steps toward correcting the violation(s). Some problems which deal with life safety are serious and correction must not be delayed.

If you are unwilling to take prompt action to correct the problem(s), there will be consequences. Failure to correct a violation(s) may result in the issuance of a citation that will require a fine to be paid or your appearance in Circuit Court. Another alternative, which is at the discretion of the Code Enforcement Officer, is that the matter be turned over to the Code Enforcement Board. Pursuant to Section 162.09 (2) (A) Florida State Statute, the Code Enforcement Board has the power to levy fines up to $250.00 a day, and up to $500.00 a day for a repeat violation for each day that the violation is not corrected.

You must ultimately correct the violation(s) in order to avoid any fines and/or liens.
