Stormwater / Flood Prevention

Storm Sewer: The City has over 23 miles of storm sewer pipes ranging from 15 inches to 48 inches in diameter and 20 retention ponds. All paved roads with curbs and gutters have storm inlets and storm sewers. Streets without curbs and gutters have roadside swales collecting and conveying stormwater either through ditch bottom inlets and storm sewers or directly to small retention ponds. Two tributaries of Soldiers Creek flow through the south-central part of Lake Mary between Longwood-Lake Mary Road and South Country Club Road. Some of these areas are in the flood zone with many adjacent wetlands. The St. Johns River Water Management District and Florida Department of Environmental Protection regulate and permit all stormwater ponds.
